How a Proposal Session Works, Step by Step
1. We agree on the spot and the exact time
You tell me where you are staying and what kind of setting you have in mind — sea, cliffs, an old village, a garden. I propose two or three spots I already know well, with the sunset time for your date, and we lock one in. If you have never been there, I send photographs of the exact viewpoint so you know what you are walking into.
2. I scout and position myself before you arrive
I get there ahead of time, check the light, the background and where the crowd is, and settle into a position 20 to 40 metres away with a long lens. Nothing about me reads as a photographer waiting for you.
3. A simple, discreet signal
We agree on one gesture — adjusting your watch, taking off your sunglasses, putting a hand in a pocket. It tells me the proposal starts in the next few seconds, so I am already tracking you when you kneel. Nothing is said out loud, and your partner sees a couple walking to a viewpoint.
4. The moment itself
I photograph continuously from the walk up to the first embrace: the kneel, the ring, the hands over the mouth, the laughter, the phone call to family. This is documentary work — nothing is directed, nothing is repeated.
5. I step in, and we keep going
Once the moment has settled, I walk over and introduce myself. Almost everyone laughs at this point. We then spend 30 to 45 minutes on a relaxed couple session in the same light — walking, talking, a few close portraits and the ring. You leave with the surprise and a proper engagement gallery.
6. Your gallery within 48 hours
A private online gallery, retouched image by image, delivered within 48 hours — in time to share with family before you fly home, and in full resolution for printing.

Where I Photograph Proposals
Marseille and the Calanques, Cassis and Cap Canaille, the Vieux-Port and Notre-Dame de la Garde, Aix-en-Provence and its fountains, the Luberon villages, and along the coast towards Rayol-Canadel, Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Antibes and Nice. Each spot works at a specific hour and from a specific angle — that is most of what you are hiring me for.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a proposal photographer cost in Provence or the French Riviera?
A surprise proposal session starts at €390. That covers location scouting beforehand, discreet coverage of the proposal itself, a 30 to 45 minute couple session straight after the yes, and a retouched online gallery delivered within 48 hours. Sessions on the French Riviera or outside the Marseille–Aix–Cassis area include a travel fee agreed in advance.
How does a surprise proposal shoot actually work?
We agree on a spot, a date and an exact time before you arrive. I am in position ahead of you, at a distance, with a long lens — you will not see me, and neither will your partner. We agree on a simple signal so I know when you are about to kneel. I photograph the whole moment from a distance, then walk over, introduce myself, and we continue with a relaxed couple session on the same spot.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable, especially between May and September. Last-minute requests are often possible — write to me with your date and I will tell you within 24 hours whether the slot is open.
What happens if the weather turns?
We keep a second slot in reserve, usually the following day at the same golden-hour time. Provence weather is stable in summer, but light rain or the mistral can change the plan, so I always propose a sheltered or inland alternative when we agree the location.
When is the best time of day to propose?
The last hour before sunset, without exception. The light is soft, the sea and the stone turn golden, and the popular viewpoints have started to empty. I send you the exact sunset time for your date and we build the timing backwards from it.
Do you speak English?
Yes — I work fluently in English, French and Spanish, and most of my proposal clients are travelling from the United States or the United Kingdom. Everything, from planning to the delivery of your gallery, happens in your language.
